ELT Meets AI: Exploring the Benefits and Challenges

We are approaching the end of the term, and this is our last task: to create AI-integrated teaching materials and a lesson plan. It might seem weird to integrate AI in the classroom because most teachers, don't want their students to use AI at all. But if we integrate it properly, it will be a lot more beneficial for our students, so we shouldn't be afraid of integrating it in the classroom.

For our teaching material, we focused on the topic 7A "Wonderfully talented people" from Unit 7 of the MEB preparatory student's book. We sequenced our material so that it has a pre-task which is the "A" activity. We introduce the topic by asking a question to students and in "A2" we prepare the students for the next task that involves the use of AI.

 For the integration of AI, we used MagicSchool's Chatbot AI- which if you remember from the previous blog posts we used last year in the ICT class-.In the activity "B1", the students have a chat with the famous person they choose and they ask questions, we also provide them the link to the chatbot. Then, from the answers they get, they write a biography of the famous person in "B2".

For our post-task, the students get feedback from the AI and they revise their biography accordingly. I think the students will enjoy this task, just like we enjoyed it last year. :)
