Teaching grammar in a museum? Thanks, VR/AR!

 Hi,everyone!

For this week's task we created an  AR/VR integrated teaching material. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the terms but for some of you that are not VR is is a computer-generated immersive three-dimensional visualisation with which users can interactand AR It is a technology that enables the display of videos, images, 3D models, and animations in a three-dimensional environment that incorporates elements from the real world. They are similar but not the same things. So, we prepared an VR/AR integrated teaching material for high school English prep class students who are A2 level. In our teaching material, we explored a city abroad. We chose Rome to explore and introduced 2 landmarks which are Collesium and The Landing Tower of Pisa.We put the photos of these landmarks and linked 360 videos on the pictures and asked 4 questions about each landmark. Then, we introduce the Capitoline Museum. We also put a picture of the museum and linked a website that the students can have a virtual tour of the museum.

Then, we introduced lasagna which is a traditional İtalian dish to our students and linked the video on the picture of lasagna that explains how to make a lasagna and asked questions to the students. At the end of our teaching material, we prepared a project for students. In this project, the students have a mission to help their bestfriend who is planning to go to Rome by writing them a letter and tell their bestfriend where to go or what to do in Rome.

I actually thought that it was going to be hard to find the AR/VR material of the landmarks or the museum but it was actually pretty easy since AR/VR became very popular. So, the most challenging thing was to pick a city since there are so many options. But since we all want to go to Rome as a group we chose it.I think there are so many advantages of using AR/VR, the most important being that it attracts the attention of the students so they want to participate more and listen more attentively in the classroom. The disadvantage might be that some students instead of listening attentively might get distracted by it.Overall, I enjoyed making the material using VR/AR and I think the students will too.

Thank you for being here and take care!
